Concise history of chocolate
production in The Netherlands
When the Spaniards landed in Latin America
around 1500, they found cocoa plants which were previously unknown
to them, and they saw that the Aztecs not only used the cocoa
beans as currency but they also ground them and whisked them
with water and herbs into a bitter, foamy cocoa drink, chocolate
(xoco-atl = strong water).
